Toronto Mediation Services Lawyer
Resolution of Dispute Through Mediation Services
Mediation is an alternative dispute resolution (ADR) process that provides a means of settling differences outside of court. In mediation, a neutral third party helps the disputing parties resolve their disagreement.
Mediation is a less expensive alternative to courtroom litigation. It also allows the parties to have a measure of control over the terms of the settlement. In court, a judge or jury will decide the outcome of a dispute.
I am Donald L. Granatstein, Q.C., LL.M., a Toronto lawyer who was trained in mediation at Harvard Law School. Over my 40-plus years in legal practice, I have regularly participated in mediation. Now I am available to mediate civil disputes, including:
- Personal injury claims
- Medical malpractice claims
- Business disputes
- Employment law disputes
- Family law issues
- Will contests and estate disputes
My role as a mediator is to listen to both sides of the argument, help clarify the issues, propose possible solutions and build consensus. My many years of experience give me insight into the human issues behind the legal problems.
Often the real issue is not the amount of a financial settlement, but the need for acknowledgement that the person was wronged or harmed in some way.
I believe that understanding people is the basis for getting to the heart of the problem and finding a solution that is fair and just.
